At long last, the second edition of “The Essential Secrets of Songwriting” has finally been released. Song samples have been updated to more current examples, with more in-depth descriptions of certain songwriting concepts. Like the first edition, it examines the technique of the world’s best songwriters from the past 50 years, and shows you how to fix your own songs.
From the Author’s Note:
I am pleased to be presenting this second edition of “The Essential Secrets of Songwriting.” The first edition was very much a labour of love: to answer the many questions from my own music theory students who had a passionate hunger for learning how to write better songs. In short, I wanted to show in clear terms why good music is good. And I wanted to do that by using the examples of hit songs that have been written over the past five decades.
In this second edition, you’ll find updated examples, more in-depth analysis of basic songwriting principles, and more advice for how to turn your songs into something that people will want to hum all day long. Getting your music heard by as many people as possible is the goal of any hit song writer, and in order to do that, you need to learn why the hit songs of the past became hits.
