I’m back home after an absolutely wonderful 2-and-a-half weeks in the U.K. It’s been the first proper holiday I’ve allowed myself to have since 2009, fourteen years ago.
It felt very odd — almost stressful at first — not updating this blog for two weeks. Sometimes the best vacation you can give yourself is one where it’s somewhere between difficult and impossible to do actual work: forcing myself to relax.
I don’t know about you, but this past spring, perhaps because it’s the first “normal” spring I’ve had since Covid changed things, I’ve been busier than I probably have ever been before. Lots of conducting various orchestras and choirs, writing, doing workshops, and tuning lots of pianos.
The first part of my U.K. holiday was in Dartmoor, and being on the moor is nothing short of breathtaking and awe-inspiring.
The second half gave us the opportunity to meet up with family that we don’t often get to see.
So now it’s back to work! I’ll be back tomorrow with a new songwriter’s article. I hope you’re all doing well, and that the songs are flowing.
And also… don’t wait fourteen years to take a holiday!
